ISO 45001 Certification

Increased challenges to the organizations are witnessed due to injury/illness, loss of work, increase in safety regulations according to the occupation, vast amount of penalties or citations, rise in compensation cost of workers, medical claims and cost, worker retention and the satisfaction of employees. OHSAS 18001 is the perfect sound blend for all of these issues.

Upon seeing the real-world operating experience, we noticed that the working compensations are seemingly growing upwards only with fast speed. Workers compensation medical is claiming ascend in the amount which is recorded at 3.6 billion over the period of last ten years. The traditional health and safety management related to occupations was only meant for reacting towards the incidents that took place and not on decreasing the risks related to that particular work that made OHSAS 18001:2007 certified organizations. Many other factors are included in the cost facing organizations, but however, these are not the things cost facing organizations are limited to.

It is reported that because of OHSMS 45001, there has been some drastic improvement in the benefits for all the occupational workers. Due to these organizations, employees are responding in favour of registered organizations, and they continue to commit to the improvements in health and safety. A positive organizational change is observed due to increased employee’s awareness and committing individually to occupational health and safety. More improvement is made because of the fact that employees are now being educated and are aware of the safety issues and understandings. Increasing awareness has been the key factor to OHSAS organizations in decreasing risk factors.

Bottom line improvements for organizations that have a registered OH&S management system include efficient organizational discipline, employee awareness and satisfaction, recognition by insures lower workers compensation and medical costs and increased control of regulatory issues.

The history of the OHSAS 45001 Standard

It was meant to fill the gap through a bridge to places where there were very little or no occupational health and safety regulations and also to the places where it didn’t meet the international standards. The development for this organization included many people in each post is it leading bodies, certifiers, trade bodies and expert consultancies.

The first version of the standard appeared in 1999 and was based on a number of existing standards (including BS8800:1996) that had been developed by the leading national certification bodies. The current version of the standard is OHSAS 18001:2007. This supersedes OHSAS 18001:1999, which is to be phased out by July 2009. Thereafter it will no longer be recognized.

Despite not being an ISO standard, OHSMS 45001 has been designed to be compatible with the ISO 45001:2008 and ISO 45001:2004, thus helping organizations to achieve an integrated management strategy.
